GSC- Great Sydney Con.

The Greater Sydney Commission set up by the Baird Government is made up of people who can use their power and influence to squash the residents of Sydney into submission. The worst thing is they are using our assets and taxes to do this. NSW is not a democracy but a dictatorship, run by people who have no interests in or knowledge of the Heritage of Sydney or Parramatta.

Let us look at the holdings of the Turnbull’s,  the couple reside in Sydney, with an additional property in Hunter Valley, an apartment in Canberra when they are not in The Lodge. They also own an apartment in New York City. The couple are independently wealthy. Mrs Turnbull is a figure head of the GSC, her task is to sell the government’s plan to sell our assets, build high rise glass boxes on every space, destroy as much of our heritage and our children’s legacy as they can, until our City have nothing left. Despite many requests for a meeting to discuss this topic, no answer is always forthcoming, tight deadlines for submissions, adds are placed on the second last page of the local papers and it is always done when they think we are distracted, like the Christmas Break for instance. Now let us analyse why this happens. Watch this video, a little long, but these plans were put in place years ago The Perfect Storm

District Commissioner West Central Professor Ed Blakely. His Profile reads like this…..gsc-commissioner-ed-blakely-400x300

US and international urban policy, US domestic policy with emphasis on race, class and socioeconomic issues, global urban agendas on sustainability, global warming, development economics with particular background in South America, China, Japan, Europe, Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa.

Edward Blakely is Chair of the Future Cities Collaborative at the US Studies Centre and serves as a District Commissioner on the Greater Sydney Commission. He previously served for two years as Executive Director of the Office of Recovery and Development Administration, the “recovery czar” for New Orleans following the devastation of hurricane Katrina. The question, is what is his knowledge of the issues, needs and the heritage of the district he is serving.

Geoff Lee MP Member for Parramatta.

Geoff Lee was born in 1967 and has an Australian and Chinese background. He attained a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in horticulture from the University of Western Sydney Hawkesbury Campus and was managing director of Hambledon Garden Centre, a garden centre and landscaping business in Parramatta from 1992 until 2001. Premier Mike Baird MP.

Baird attended The King’s School, Parramatta, and spent time living in the USA whilst his father served as head of the Australia trade commission in New York. Baird graduated with a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney. Baird also studied at Regent College in Vancouver, Canada, initially intending to enter the Anglican ministry, but while there decided a career in investment banking and later politics. In 1999, he successfully sought preselection for the seat of Manly. Baird then returned to investment banking, working for the National Australia Bank for a time in London, before returning to Sydney to work for the HSBC Australia. But of course now Mr Baird has started the avalanche of destruction, he has resigned the Parliament.

gladys_portrait-webNow we are looking at Gladys Berejiklian as the new Premier who has promised us she will do everything that Mike Baird did but more, sales of the people’s assets, more infrastructure, privatisation of  Crown Land, and build more high rise for overseas investors.

Gladys has not mentioned her vision for Heritage and certainly does not know what Parramatta has, some tour guide should give her a days tour of Parramatta to see the potential “Tourism Dollars” if she is game to take on the current system of decision makers that Mr Baird has set in place.

Now, you ask what are these lot of people making decisions on our precious history and heritage, they are not interested in the subject or the people involved, they have not studied the subject or read stories, they do not or cannot tell the stories of the past, and has never explored or even visited the area they are in charge of, then what are they interested in and what is the common theme that these people are interested in? The answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is money.

  1. What worries me most about the Greater Sydney Commission (GSC) is as follows:-

The GSC has been set up to smooth the dramatic growth of Sydney over the next 30 years. But why do we have to accept that Sydney has to grow to more than 6.6 million people by 2036, to quote figures from the Planning NSW web site? Maybe the citizens of NSW would like to see more of that population growth occurring in regional and rural NSW!

Why is the LNP government not looking at serious job creation in regional and rural NSW so that there is an alternative to pouring money into motorway infrastructure in Sydney that will turn it into the Los Angeles of the 21st century?

Is there an equivalent organisation to GSC that is driving planning and development of regional and rural NSW?

I suspect the answer is no, because the Property Council of Australia (PCA) and Urban Task Force (UTF), who represents major developers, property investors, builders and operators of urban transport infra have not told Bulldozer Baird to do so.

PCA and UTF have an agenda of maximising windfall profits for their stakeholders. It is quite easy to do that in Sydney which is already bursting at the seems. But promoting jobs and growth is a more challenging, slower process in regional and rural NSW. So there PCA and UTF are not interested, and they haven’t used their influence on Bulldozer Baird to put any effort into planning in the less profitable parts of NSW.

All the appointees to Greater Sydney Commission have been in the gift of Bulldozer Baird. There are some very talented people working in the GSC as Commissioners or supporting staff. But their jobs are all in the gift of Bulldozer Baird and that is a huge worry to me.

At the same time as setting up the GSC Bulldozer Baird has been aggressively forcing local councils to merge, which dramatically reduces the time, energy and resources available to locally elected Councillors to challenge the major changes to Sydney that Bulldozer Baird is ramming through now, with only minimal consultation with the public. When there has been some token consultation that does not match the premier’s objectives he simply ignores it!

Local councillors have previously been elected to represent their residents in debates and negotiations related to Local Environment Plans (LEP) and Development Control Plans (DCP). Baird’s intention is clearly to gradually remove the role of local councils in any planning at all, and is using the glossy GSC as the distraction, while stripping councils of their planning authority.
In reality all the critical planning decisions are probably being taken by Baird’s “kitchen cabinet” of closest advisers, and not even being reviewed and debated by the full cabinet.
Bulldozer Baird has shown himself to be a total autocrat in the past 12 months. No wonder voters at the Orange by-election gave his LNP government a very bloody nose at Orange last month.

Meanwhile Local Govt Minister Paul Toole has threatened to extend quite unreasonably the time that local residents will not be able to vote for their local councillors. This type of bullying has no place in a democracy like Australia. Based on this behaviour Toole has no right to a seat in the NSW Cabinet, and especially to be responsible for local government. His own career as a Councillor, Deputy Mayor and Mayor in the Bathurst region does not shine out as a great example of competence and good governance.

And to round off community fears with the way Bulldozer Baird is manipulating the planning system of NSW, with the help of the GSC, PCA, UTF and the Committee of Sydney we have him hell bent selling off a gold plated, revenue generating cash cow like the NSW Land & Property Information service to the highest bidder in the private sector. Meanwhile who in the Baird Government is showing any sign that they realise the massive governance risk of placing our entire land title system in the hands of the private sector!
